“Last week, Horn added another chapter to the story, as it outlasted Killeen Harker Heights in three games of its Class 6A Division II bi-district best-of-3 series, winning the decisive contest in convincing fashion in an 18-3 win to advance in the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
Martinez was a steady offensive force throughout the series, going 8-for-11 with a pair of doubles, five runs scored and two runs batted in.
Those numbers are nothing new for the junior standout.
For the season, she ranks among the area leaders at the plate, posting a .471 batting average, with four triples, 11 doubles, 26 runs scored and 26 runs batted in.
For her efforts, Martinez was voted by our readers as the Star Local Media Athlete of the Week.”
